The Friendly Robotics RL1000 RoboMower 21-Inch automatic cordless electric lawn mower and docking station is a fantastic space-age lawnmower. For some people, the idea of Robotic lawnmowers is enticing in and of itself. The Robomower RL1000 costs nearly $2,000 so this is not for the economically-minded buyer. Unless of course, you judge economics in terms of save time and energy.
The Robomower RL 1000 can handle big lawns – the manufacturer designed it for lawns between 12,900 to 17,200 square feet. You just mark out the territory you want cut with the wire that comes with the Robomow RL1000. This is an amazing system. You set up the wire and the base station and then program the Robomow RL1000 with its mowing schedule and starting point. The mower will start off from one of four selected points on the day and time you programmed into it and it will mow the entire selected area. You don’t even need to be there. After the work is done, the Robomower RL1000 goes back to the base station and recharges for its next mowing session.
While it does not demand much from you in terms of actually doing the work, you do need to know what the Robomow RL1000 can do. So here is a list of its features:
- A drop-and-go 24-volt battery
- On-board charging
- A LCD operating panel
- A theft-deterrent system
- knobby wheels for high grass and bumpy ground situations
- Touch-sensitive bumpers

- An edge mode and manual-trim mode
Robomower RL1000 reviews tell the truth about how the Robomow works and they are spectacular reviews. Sure the robotic mower is big and heavy but it is considered extremely safe. (Apparently in 2005, there were 72,000 visits to an emergency room based on lawn mower accidents but not one involved a robotic lawn mower). It takes 20 hours to charge but it can and does function on a daily basis and still has time to charge.
Reviewers recommend reading the manual. It’s not a big job to read it but it is a very useful experience. A reviewer joked that buying the Robomow just for the installation DVD is worth it as he found the DVD entertaining. He also noted that the 1,000 feet of wire that came with the Robomower RL1000 was not enough for his purposes and recommended buying more. He got another 1,000 feet of 14-gauge solid copper wire. The mower comes with 250 pegs and he suggests using a peg every three to five feet.
